Walton Srixon Pairs

On a fine frosty Waikato morning 41 pairs started the Walton Srixon Pairs tournament last Sunday 21^st June. The top four pairs would make it through to the Regional Final at Ngaruawahia. The final scores were very close especially at the top, there were three pairs with a total of 48 points each that tied for first place. Mike Garrud Susan Garrud, Myke Dearnley Linda Dixon and Matthew Verryt Brian Verryt. The fourth place for the regional final was shared by five different pairs. Kevin Braybrrok Todd Woodmass, John Adamson Eddie McBriar, Kevin Old Dianna Grieve, Dudley Jackson Peter Coleman and Ben Clarkin Don Fowler.

The final pair would need to be decided by a sudden death playoff. The light was fading so after playing the 18^th hole D Jackson and P Coleman were eliminated. Due to poor light the playoff hole changed to the par three 12^th hole with the help of some car headlights. After several replays of this hole eventually the winning pair was Kevin Old and Dianna Grieve.

There were also thirteen twos on the day M Dearnley, K Braybrook, D Sharp, T Louisson, M Begovich, G Munro, D Lang, B Verryt, S Metcalf, G Storey, D Ambler, K Newton and C Mowatt.

Championship Pennant Final Division Two

The Division Two final was Walton against Thames, after the morning foursomes both teams had gained 1.5 points each so the teams were still all square. However the weather did not go as planned and turned worse by the afternoon and play was suspended due to the greens being flooded, play was then cancelled. The final was played on Saturday 14^th June with the morning foursomes still counting. The afternoon matches were played and J Higgens lost his match 6 and 5 to give Thames the early lead. K Braybrook won his match on the 18^th hole by chipping in to make it all square again. K Dench lost his match but K Storey won his so it was still all square with two matches to finish. The captain A McGiven won his match and so did R Wilcock giving Walton the win 5.5 to 3.5. Walton are the Division Two winners and title holders for 2009. A great final and an excellent season for the guys. They now get to play a Promotion relegation match with Horsham Downs Golf Club for a place in Division One.
