At our annual Spring Pairs Tournament there were 104 players from 21 Clubs who all braved extremely windy weather coupled with some very heavy showers. There were 30 starters this week on an overcast but mild day golfer of the week for the second week in a row was J Armstrong 10-77-67-41

Senior results J Armstrong 41, B Snook 38, K Storey 36, M Garrud, G Higgens, M Cowlrick 34. Junior results R Rutten, M King 38, J Harris 37, D Carter, D Jackson 36, E Hillerton 35 .

Closest pin 12th sponsored by Greg Waters Spraying was D Jackson, Longest putt Sponsored by Sprayon was G Higgens. Hidden holes sponsored by Straight Up Fencing was J Armstrong. There were nine twos J Adamson, J Armstrong, P Coleman, M Garrud, D Jackson, K Storey, B Wallace and C Firby with two twos.

Working Bee

Last week a large number of members turned up to make a new retaining wall and path near the club house. The extension and renewal of the retaining wall near the car park and club house will make a great improvement to the area. Many thanks to all the volunteers who donated their time, skills and effort to the club and the improvement of the course. With the recent weather the final touches are still to be finished but some photos of the current work are below.

Mens Championship Pennant Finals Winners

The Division 5 Pennant team consisting of John Stevens, Gavin Pitcon, Don Sharp, Mike Garrud, Warren Brooks and Bryan Smith. Won the Round Robin for Division 5 narrowly beating Hauraki and Waihi. They qualified for the Division 5 Final to be held at Lochiel on Sunday 30th May to face Waihi.

The morning Foursomes pairs of B Smith & G Pitcon, J Stevens & D Sharp, M Garrud & W Brooks. M Garrud & W Brooks won early 6 & 5, With J Stevens & D Sharp winning 5 & 4, and B Smith & G Pitcon winning on the 18th. Giving Walton a great lead 3 to 0.

The afternoon matches were very close with M Garrud & D Sharp both up with five holes to play and losing four holes in a row to both lose 2 & 1. However, G Pitcon won early and J Stevens won on the 17th 2 & 1. Giving Walton the win. B Smith and W Brooks both up and square halved their matches for Walton to win the Division Five title 6 to 4. They are all looking forward to the challenge of the Fourth division next season.

Mens Saturday 29th May

There were good number of starters this week. The golfer of the week sponsored by The Redoubt Bar & Brassarie was B Snook with 11-77-66-+4.

Juniors- R Rutten and S Gordon +2, M King and B Fort even, B LeQuesne and B Raynel -1, R Williams G Wills and P Coleman -2, J Harris and K Pickett -3.

There were three twos all getting four balls each J Armstong, B Gordon and P Coleman. Closest to the pin on the 14th was G Pitcon sponsored by Cheep Liquor and number 12th was D Sweeney sponsored by Greg Waters Spraying. Longest Putt R Luxton sponsored by sprayon, Hidden holes winner was E Hillerton sponsored by straight up fencing. Whacker of the week was I Wilcock with 25pts. Winner of the monthly draw was J Adamson.

Next weekend is queens birthday weekend so there will be just a scramble on saturday and monday. Saturday the 12th of june will be the 3rd and final round of the James Cup also the Friar Memorial Trophy will be starting.The matches are W Oliver v C Firby and W Fort v J Harris 9.45am, B Snook v R Coleman and E Hillerton v M King 10.00am, J Armstong v J Adamson and R Wilcock v M Cowlrick 10.15am, S Gordon v R Burling and M Garrud v G Higgens 10.30am

Walton Opening Day
It was a great day with a large number of starters there for the first day of the season. There were eight new
members that joined on opening day and it was an enjoyable day had by all, it was a two person ambrose format. The joint winners of the day were M Cowlrick & Fiona, K Braybrook & D Harty with 67 netts.
Walton members start the year well
There has been a unreal start to the 2010 season at Walton. In the last six days there has been three hole in ones on the course. The first was on the weekend at the Wrightsons Foursomes on the 15th hole by Mike Garrud his first ever, this was closely followed by Heather Sharp on Tuesday on the same hole, it was her second hole in one. The third was on Friday on the 8th hole by Gilbert Higgens. There have been two other hole in ones by Walton members on other courses, Mark Begovich the current President at Whangamata and Erin Hawe at the Mount Maunganui course. Thats five in just over seven weeks in the year. A great way to start the season.

PGG Wrightsons Foursomes
There was a good number of Mens pairs that turned out to this tournament which was proudly sponsored by PGG Wrightsons. There were some good scores with the top half of the field playing close to their handicaps, the best score for the morning round was B Snook & M Silvester with a 68.5 nett. The overall winners were Matthew Adams & Wataru Saito with a total nett score of 140. On the same day a Hole in One was scored by M Garrud on the 15th hole.

Walton Anniversary Day Mixed Open

There was a large number of visitors and locals that turned out to this tournament which was proudly sponsored by Lion Nathan. There were three divisions, two Mens and one Ladies. The nett winners were R Luxton 68, C Gibson 67 and W Davidson 64. The gross winners were R Blake 77 and J Williams 83. The stableford winners were P McKoy 39, M Shaw 39 and D Sweeney 39. There were only three twos J Adamson, M Shaw and M Silvester. The course was in excellent condition and the grren keeper and his staff must be thanked for their fine work.
